MEET THE GROUP LEADERS
Brooke co-founded the Sacred Circle of Northeast Kansas in 2012 to provide a local source of support and resources for birth trauma and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), as well as to help increase community awareness of these issues. Brooke experienced post-traumatic stress effects (PTSE) after the birth of her daughter in 2011. She credits eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, connecting with other birth trauma survivors, and a lot of spiritual seeking for helping her come to a place of peace and empowerment.
As a Sacred Circle group leader and in her work as a certified birth doula, Brooke feels privileged for the opportunity to support and mentor women on their motherhood journeys.
Kendra joined the Sacred Circle of Northeast Kansas in the summer of 2014. After anticipating fertility issues, she was thrilled and shocked when she conceived the boy that would later become her Christmas Eve miracle (2011). Kendra suffered a traumatic birth immediately followed by severe postpartum depression (PPD)/anxiety/obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the midst of her struggles, Kendra found it difficult to find support and treatment. With the help of therapy and medication, however, she made a full recovery. She then committed herself to helping other mothers find local resources and to helping create new resources as needed.
Kendra is especially grateful that her advocacy work in postpartum issues has provided the opportunity to befriend many amazing, strong mothers and their families.
